01Who can use Spur
You need to be at least 18 and resident in Australia to hold a Spur account. By using the service you confirm you meet these requirements.
Some listed services are restricted to adults (18+), for example certain skin-penetration and wellness treatments, and are flagged as such on the slot. The studio verifies age at the appointment; please don't reserve an 18+ service if you don't meet the age requirement.
02What Spur is
Spur is a directory that surfaces real, last-minute availability at Sydney studios and lets you reserve a slot. We list studios by hand, one at a time, and curate who appears — we don't run compliance, licensing, insurance or qualification checks on them. The studio — not Spur — provides the beauty service and is responsible for it.
03Your account
One account per person. We use passwordless sign-in — keep access to your email secure, as you're responsible for activity on your account. If you think someone else has accessed it, email hello@usespur.au straight away.
You need an account to make a booking, but not to browse. Browsing slots is open to everyone; when you reserve your first slot we create your account as part of checkout, using the name, email and mobile number you provide (or that your mobile wallet returns). After that, we email you a sign-in link for future visits.
04How bookings work
You browse, you tap to reserve, and you pay a small booking fee to Spur via Stripe, using secure payment fields embedded on Spur's own checkout page. The studio is then told to expect you — it receives your first name, your mobile number, the appointment time, the service you booked, and a short booking reference. On the day, just give your name at the studio; there's no code to present. The booking reference is only there so you and the studio can identify the booking if you need to talk to us about it. Your slot is held by your booking fee.
05Pricing and the two payments
There are two separate payments, and we show you both before you commit:
- Booking fee to Spur — 10% of the discounted price ($1 minimum), charged via Stripe when you reserve. This is what Spur earns, and the total you pay us is shown in full before you pay. Stripe is our payment processor; we don't store your full card number. If a payment is declined, the slot isn't reserved. [GST treatment of the booking fee, and whether Spur issues a receipt or tax invoice for it, to be confirmed before launch.]
- Discounted service price to the studio — paid directly to the studio at the appointment (EFTPOS, card, or cash — whatever the studio accepts). The studio keeps 100% of this; Spur never touches it.
The discounted price you see in Spur is the price you pay the studio. Prices and discounts are set by the studio, not by Spur.
About the “usually” price. Where we show a saving, the standard price we compare against is supplied by the studio, which warrants to us that it is the price it ordinarily charges the public for that service. If a standard price turns out not to be genuine, we'll correct the listing or remove it, and tell you if it affected a booking you made.
06The booking fee, and when we refund it
What the fee is. The booking fee is what you pay Spur for finding your slot and holding it for you. We've done that as soon as your reservation is confirmed, so the fee isn't refundable if you simply change your mind.
We refund it in full, automatically, when the reason you missed your appointment wasn't yours:
- the studio cancels, closes, or can't perform the service at the booked time;
- the studio can't take you for a reason on their side, like a double-booking or an unavailable practitioner;
- the price, service or time shown on Spur was wrong;
- Spur cancels your booking; or
- you cancel within 30 minutes of reserving, as long as the appointment isn't in the next two hours.
It isn't refundable if: you change your mind or don't turn up; you arrive too late for the studio to fit you in; or the studio declines because you don't meet an age or health requirement that was flagged on the slot before you booked.
Spur bears the cost of these refunds, not the studio — but a studio that repeatedly cancels can have its listing paused under its terms with Spur.
We show this rule at checkout as well as here, so you see it before you pay. To ask about a refund, email hello@usespur.au.
None of this limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, including the consumer guarantees, which can't be excluded.
07If something goes wrong on the day
Some things we can't prevent, so here's what happens:
- The studio is closed, overbooked, or can't perform the service — we refund your booking fee in full and, where we can, help you find another slot.
- The studio declines the service on arrival — if that's for a reason on their side, we refund your fee in full. If it's because you don't meet an age or health requirement that was flagged on the slot, the fee isn't refundable.
- The price, service or time shown on Spur was wrong — you don't have to go ahead, and we refund your fee in full.
- Spur cancels your booking — for example a listing error or suspected fraud — we tell you why and refund your fee in full.
The service itself is the studio's responsibility (see section 11), and your consumer guarantees for it sit with them. Tell us anyway — email hello@usespur.au — because it tells us who to keep listing.
08Honour what you book
These are last-minute slots. When you reserve one, someone else can't easily take your place at short notice, and the studio is preparing for you.
If plans change, call the studio directly as soon as you can — most will accommodate. Repeated no-shows may lead us to pause your account (see section 14); we believe in being kind to the studios.
09Health and suitability
Spur gives no medical or cosmetic advice and does not assess whether a treatment is suitable for you. Tell the studio directly about any allergies, skin conditions, medications, recent procedures or pregnancy, ideally before your appointment starts. The studio may modify or decline a treatment on those grounds.
10Restricted (18+) services
Some services are restricted to adults and are flagged on the slot. The studio is responsible for verifying age and may refuse service if the age requirement isn't met. Don't reserve a restricted service unless you qualify.
11The studio provides the service
The appointment itself — the quality, safety, and outcome of the service — is the studio's responsibility, with the consumer guarantees that go with it. Studios are independent businesses, not agents or employees of Spur. If something goes wrong with the service on the day, raise it with the studio; we'll help where we can (see section 17).
12Liability
Spur is a directory that connects you with independent studios; the studio — not Spur — provides the beauty service and is responsible for it. To the extent permitted by law, and without excluding, restricting, or modifying any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded, Spur is not liable for the acts or omissions of studios or for the underlying service.
Where Spur is liable for failing to meet a consumer guarantee in relation to our own service, our liability is limited as permitted by law. Nothing in this clause applies to limit liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
13Acceptable use
Use Spur honestly and lawfully. Don't reserve slots you don't intend to honour, make bookings in a false name or for someone who hasn't asked you to, dispute a payment you know was valid, interfere with the site or try to get around its security, or use Spur to harass studios or other people.
You're free to book any studio directly, on any other platform, or at any price you can arrange. Nothing here restricts who you deal with.
14Suspension and termination
You can close your account at any time by emailing hello@usespur.au.
We may suspend or close an account only for one of these reasons: material or repeated breach of these terms, fraud or chargeback abuse, abusive behaviour towards a studio or our team, or three or more no-shows in any 90 days. We'll tell you the reason, and give you a chance to put it right first — except where the reason is fraud or someone's safety, when we may act immediately.
15Intellectual property
The Spur name, wordmark, design, copy, and code are owned by Spur. You're welcome to share screenshots and link to us; please don't reproduce the wordmark or copy commercially without asking. Studio names, photographs, and service descriptions remain the property of the relevant studio.
16Changes to these terms
We will email account holders at least seven days before material changes take effect, and a change never affects a booking you've already confirmed. Minor changes (typos, formatting) we'll just publish.
17Disputes and governing law
If something has gone wrong, start by emailing hello@usespur.au — we want to know and we'll try to fix it.
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. You and Spur submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales. Nothing here affects rights you may have to bring a matter before a tribunal or regulator, including NSW Fair Trading.
